Lookout! May is coming and Nature is Shouting “Look at Me, Look at Me”

May 11

The tiny green of April’s baby leaves have now grown full and flutter in the spring winds. Wild violets poke their delicate heads through the grass, an intense deep purple surprising us amongst the emerald green grass. Flowers blossom in shades of pink and red, blue and purple, replacing the yellow daffodils of early April.

The dusting of pollen has blown away and Spring extends her open hand, inviting us outside to enjoy her luscious playground. The fresh scent of the birth of spring and that gentle warm breeze, well before summer humidity arrives, fills us with the promise of renewal, of rebirth, not just for nature, but also for us.

We don't have to go away to the mountains, or forests, or oceans to connect. We only need to:

Open the door…

Step outside...

And…

Pause.

Pause for a moment to breathe in nature’s delicate newness. Allow your eyes to roam over the trees against the spring-blue sky. Inhale deeply and let out a long sigh. Feel the tension in your neck and shoulders, tightness in your belly, melt away, replaced by calm, peace, and serenity.

We are drawn to nature in all seasons, yet for me spring holds such promise of life beginning all over again, of renewed hope in her brilliant colors after the grays and browns of dark winter. A transformative time, pulling us out of our winter nests of socks, sweaters, and bundled blankets, into the light.

And May brings us an opportunity to remember not just Mother Earth, but our mothers and their mothers, who brought us into this beautiful life and nurtured us.
