Winter Solstice: A Time For Introspection

December 10

FREE GIFT BELOW:

Get ready…The time of transformation is coming. The Winter Solstice is December 21st, 2025 here in the Northern Hemisphere. It is a time of transformation, heralding the beginning of our days growing longer, out of the dark and into the light.

The days leading up to the shortest day of the year is a wonderful time to think about how you would like to tweak your life and pursue new ideas after the darkness of December and into the Light of longer days. The time, near to January 1, 2026, to decide what seeds you wish to plant and nurture for the new year.

One of the best gifts you can give yourself as a Family Caregiver is to use this time of long dark nights to gather your seeds (your ideas) for planting in January.

A time for introspection. A time for planning in the quiet cozy nights of darkness. A slow, quiet time to ask yourself,

Who Am I?

What passions did I set aside when I began caring for my Loved One?

What do I long to do?

What would I like to pull out of My Closet of Waiting?
You know, that closet where you packed away your creativity, your passions, your ideas when you became a Family Caregiver and discovered you didn’t have the time to pursue them?

Grab a piece of paper, or better a spiral notebook and a pen and write down ideas you would like to begin for your own Self-Care.

Do it now, in the velvety dark nights of mid-December. Snuggle in your cozy blanket, light a candle, and ask yourself…What is calling me? What do I need? Am I giving myself the same loving care I give my Ill Loved One?

Create a list of all those ideas that cross your mind. Silly ones, serious ideas, even ones you know you most likely can’t do as a Family Caregiver. Every evening leading up to December 21 st add to your list, collecting ideas without editing.

This is your private list. You don’t have to share it with anyone. It doesn’t have to be fancy or neat. It can be a messy list as ideas pop into your mind, as you quickly jot them down.

Starting a garden is always messy. But it is also the beginning of You, slowly, gradually, Taking Care of Yourself…the path to thriving as a Family Caregiver, not just surviving.
