Hang in there for a few more weeks of a wintry mix, cold one day, then warm the next. Back and forth we totter until March 20th, 5:01 am EST time. the Vernal, or Spring Equinox. That is the Earth's Calendar announcing changes in seasons, in the Northern Hemisphere, in North Carolina where I live.
What does all that mean? The days will get a little bit longer until The Summer Solstice on June 20th when we reach the longest day of the year.
I Probably won't be up at 5:01 am, but when I do get up and enjoy my coffee, I’ll pull out my journal and begin writing as random thoughts cross my mind and remind myself of my mantra to practice.
And because I’ve been keeping a Caregiving Journal for the past eight years, I’ll take some time today to review my goals and intentions from Winter Quarter 2024 to see what adjustments and changes I need to make. The Equinox gives us the perfect time to review what we did the first quarter of the year Winter, December, January, February.
Did we accomplish the goals we set up? If not, that’s ok, we have another quarter to accomplish those goals, or change them, or decide that wasn’t the way you wanted to go. And it’s OK if we didn’t get everything done as planned. We tried. This is not school and not for a grade or evaluation. As Caregivers we all know the best laid plans can change in an instant. All we can do is the best we can do. And then, there is tomorrow.
Do we want to make any changes, new goals, explore new ideas?
Did we practice Taking Care of Ourselves? Ahh…the most important and the BIG GOAL of creating these quarterly journals. I know because I was a Caregiver for my husband for the past twenty years. I thought I was taking care of myself until I discovered I wasn’t. I felt angry I had no time to do the things I once enjoyed, like writing, or painting, or finishing a craft project that got interrupted. And sometimes I felt so overwhelmed and fatigued, I didn’t have the energy to work on my projects. One those things that brought me peace and self-expression. All signs that I wasn’t taking care of myself.
You’ll see me bringing this up throughout my blogs and my practices, and in my book that has just been published, Coming Home to Yourself, Care for the Caregivers, which is available as a paperback on Amazon for preorder, or Kindle. Both will be delivered April 23rd.
And as, always, if you have any questions, email me. I want to help you Take Care of Yourself and Thrive.
